The Scoop went out fishing for blogs dedicated to the Central Corridor and life along University Avenue, and snagged a “Holy Mackerel!” of a dietician’s digital nightmare.
Hamline-Midway resident John Bailey has created a Central Corridor blog dedicated to that most wondrous of stuff that, if given half a chance, could truly unite us all: food.
Bailey’s blog, GreenLine Gems (http://greenlinegems.com), aims to find the “greatness on University Avenue” one restaurant at a time. From the looks of his blog so far, he’s sampled the pho at Pho Ca Dao and Que Nha, Que Nha, and guzzled a vegetarian burrito made with pieces of pear cactus at Homi.
He’s also ventured into Bangkok Cuisine and found his destiny at the Destiny Cafe. Bailey, who moved to the neighborhood from out of state with his family five years ago, takes the name of his blog from the Green Line (more commonly referred to as the Central Corridor Light Rail), which will connect downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis when the light rail is ready to roll in 2014.
He’s apparently hoping to keep some local merchants afloat through the construction period by feeding himself heartily, and writing about it. Bailey, who is originally from Texas, is the former transportation, housing and land use policy director for St. Paul-based “Envision Minnesota,” formerly known as “1,000 Friends of Minnesota.” He’s now an independent consultant in regional planning.
But GreenLine Gems isn’t the only blog dedicated to life and business in the path of the coming train line.
